1953. What's going on in your novel?



Behind a heavy reader of English (for example) that reads and enjoyes the novel, and reads the novel concentrated on the plot and the way the writer composed the book, that person, in a sense is bilingual. 

He reads page after page, stuck by the plot, interested in what’s going on, and not very concerned about using a dictionary. He understands what is written there, and he’s stuck in that universe, a one of fiction. / Photo from: milkman. ejsisme blogspot com

This is interesting! As an English teacher, do you recommend specific fiction with aims of enhancing vocabulary, improving grammar, etc, or just for the joy of it, 'escapism' and a bit of fun? And do you encourage using a dictionary when your students find a true page-turner?
