One of the first rules of foreign language learning is to avoid constant translating to or from your native language. We tend to think of a word or phrase in English first [his mother language], then translate it into the foreign language. We’re always banking on the native language to bail us out in some way. What you have to try to do is to think directly in your foreign language. Don’t always insist on an English equivalent for words or phrases. Just accept them for their meaning and purpose in the foreign language. Untie the apron strings of the native language!
